We are extremely proud to partner with Anstead’s Tobacco Company and NC Cigar Club to bring the Award Winning documentary “Hand Rolled: A Film About Cigars” on the East Coast! Director Jesse Mariut will be on hand to meet & greet film goers and answer questions about the project. We have been told there will be some very special guest also making an appearance. This is shaping up to be one of the best events on the coast this year and we are humbled to be part of this very special day. If you have not heard about the film, check out the trailer below.

This is by far one of the most important films about the history, people and culture of the industry we love. We hope that you will come out and enjoy a fun filled day with us.

Ezra Zion acquires Nomad Cigar Company

As many of you may have seen yesterday across various social media and cigar media sites, Ezra Zion Cigar Company has acquired Nomad Cigar Company.

“Nomad is an artisan boutique brand with an emphasis on quality and craftsmanship. Fred has been a close friend and colleague for years. We’re honored to be entrusted with such an institution.” stated Ezra Zion owner Chris Kelly.

Nomad Cigars will be distributed nationally by TX Distribution, which is owned by Ezra Zion and operates from their warehouses in Alvord, Texas.

“I feel confident that not only will Chris and Kyle take Nomad Cigar Company to the next level, but will also preserve what has brought it to this point.” noted Fred Rewey.

Nomad blends currently in the market will continue to be available from retail brick and mortar shops.

“So where are we taking Nomad? Well, we’ve got some very special blends just waiting to be released—really next level stuff! We will definitely be doing some very cool limited offerings under the Nomad brand.” noted Ezra Zion owner Kyle Hoover.

“We’d like an outlet for our more edgy and experimental stuff—both in terms of cigar making and also art concepts. There are some ideas that we feel might not exactly fit as an Ezra Zion release. Nomad gives us the chance to color outside the lines.” added Kelly.

The companies are currently transitioning business operations and logistics, etc. During this transition, Nomad retailers can continue to order from their current Nomad sales reps.

Fort Worth, TX – Providencia Cigars is pleased to announce the release of The Hostage, the company’s latest limited production launch. The Hostage is the 4th production blend for the young Texas cigar company and it promises to be as bold as the story behind the name.

The Hostage tells the harrowing story of Providencia Cigars founder Jim Faber who was held at gun point in the parking lot of a youth soccer field in Honduras. As explained by Jim:

“Through my soccer work and mission in Honduras I got close to the mayor of the town and was eventually asked if I would consider helping young members of a gang get off the street through my soccer camps and school. Accepting the challenge, I developed a friendship with the young players and their parents as we helped to turn their lives by way of soccer.

One day at the field, I was abducted by some men who forced me into a car. Some of the dads stepped in to help me amidst a flurry of gun fire and I was eventually able to get free.

I was later told by the US Military investigator that a Mexican gang had moved into the country and they believed it was these gang members that tried to kidnap me.”

Faber, who lived in Honduras from 1997-2011 has a deep love for the area and the citizens of this beautiful Central American country. It is this love that drove him to create a cigar and pay tribute to those that saved his life that day.

The Hostage is a limited production, 6 x 52 box-pressed toro with a blend described as:

  • Wrapper – San Andrés

  • Binder – Indonesian

  • Filler – Nicaragua and Honduran Ligero

This cigar offers the experienced palate, a complex flavor profile down to the finish with a solid full-strength body of smoke.

The Hostage comes packaged in 10 count cedar boxes and bundles of 11 with an MSRP of $9.99 per cigar/ $99.90 per box/bundle. Current production is limited to 1,050 cigars.

The Hostage is produced at the La Pequena Vega Cigar Factory in Danli, Honduras.

Providencia Cigars will be taking orders and shipping The Hostage starting this week.

Artwork for The Hostage was done by JT Design Studio who designed the cigar bands as well as the inner box lids.

Blanton's Single Barrel

It’s whiskey Wednesday Hawks, and boy I’m excited for this one. Starting today and for the next few weeks I will be reviewing the Blanton’s bourbon line. A little background on Blanton’s bourbon…It comes from the Buffalo Trace distillery and was made by Master Distiller Elmer T. Lee in honor of Colonel Albert B. Blanton, who was previously a Master Distiller at Buffalo Trace. We will start this week off with the original Blanton’s Single Barrel bourbon, and then continue with the Gold, Special Reserve, Black, and Straight From The Barrel editions. There are obviously a few of the releases that I have left out, however I still haven’t had the luxury of getting my hands on any of these. They include the, Red, Silver, and various France releases.

Each bottle of Blanton’s is noticeable from a distance, due to its grenade shaped bottle, and horse and jockey on top. Each of the toppers has become collectable in its own way, as each of them has a different letter on it that spells B-L-A-N-T-O-N-S once you’ve collected all of them. Specialty companies have even made topper displays, such as the one pictured.

The mash bill on this bourbon is Buffalo Trace’s mash bill #2, which has the higher rye content. However, BT doesn’t disclose the exact mash bill.

ABV on this variation of Blanton’s is 93 proof. More than enough to get the job done, if you know what I mean.

The color sits at a dark amber with hints of red and burgundy.

At 49 to 65 dollars a bottle, Blanton’s is not the cheapest pour on the shelf, but it’s not insane either. The biggest issue you will have with this bourbon is finding a bottle. Not even 10 years ago I remember going in the store outside of Fort Campbell and literally wiping dust off bottles of Blanton’s. You could have found it anywhere at any time. Fast forward to present day and the bourbon boom is in full swing. I have now only been able to find three bottles of regular Blanton’s in two years, and two of those were behind the counter and I had to ask. Thankfully I have built up somewhat of a relationship with my local ABC employees.

The nose on this bourbon is great and one of the best I’ve nosed. Notes of citrus, clove, nutmeg, all spice and raisin. The spicy smell from the rye is not extremely overpowering, but reminds me of the holidays.

The taste is similar to the nose. It’s well balanced with citrus, spice, and vanilla notes. There is a sweeter caramel and toffee taste on the front, and a spicy cinnamon taste on the back.

The finish on this bottle was medium to long. Oak, toasted marshmallow and nutmeg wrap this pour up in a nice package.

My final thoughts on this bourbon are that if you can find a bottle of Blanton’s, give it a try. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite bourbon, but it’s in my top 20 for sure. It’s definitely a great bourbon for parties and conversation starters. The bottle is cool, and I’ve seen a ton of crafty ways to reuse the bottles.

I didn’t require ice or water with this bourbon and tasted it using my Glencarin glass.

Germany, Japan, Mexico and Norway have been added to the expanding list of countries where Mombacho Cigars are available for purchase. New Liga Maestro boxes debuted at IPCPR 2018.

GRANADA, NICARAGUA. – (25 July 2018). Mombacho Cigars S.A. has broadened its international reach by adding distributers in four new countries. Germany, Japan, Mexico and Norway are now among the 16 countries where Mombacho Cigars are sold.
